Cabrillo Marine Aquarium
The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium has the largest collection of southern California marine life on exhibit in the world, including sharks, jellyfish, a tidepool touch tank and exhibits on whales and dolphins. The Aquarium is located at 3720 Stephen White Drive and is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Los Angeles Maritime Museum
Located in the historic old San Pedro municipal ferry building at Berth 84, the museum houses seven galleries containing large collections of beautifully crafted models. Also in the collection are paintings, sailor crafts, seafaring artifacts and memorabilia reflecting the maritime heritage of the greater Los Angeles harbor. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. $1 donation. For information call 310-548-7618.

S.S. Lane Victory
One of only two remaining "Victory" ships and a National Historic Monument, the U.S.S. Lane Victory has been restored to full operating status by the non-profit Merchant Marine Veterans of WWII as a memorial to the U.S. merchant mariners who have served their country since WWI. The vessel, which has a fine nautical museum aboard, is open for tours at Berth 94 (next to the World Cruise Center) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 7 days a week for a small donation. The Waterfront Red Car Line
The Port of Los Angeles Waterfront Red Car Line uses a portion of the original Pacific Electric San Pedro Line that dates back to the beginning of the 20th Centure. The 1.5 mile waterfron Red Car Line connects the Port's waterfront attractions, including the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and Ports O' Call Village. The Cabrillo Marina Station is adjacent to 22nd Street Landing Restaurant and Sport Fishing. The Red Car operates Friday through Monday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 pm. Fare is $1.00. Marine Mammal Care Center
This non-profit care center takes in hundreds of sick and injured marine mammals each year and rehabilitates them with the goal of returning them to the wild. Stagged primarily by volunteers, the center is open for viewing the seals, sea lions and other marine mammals daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3601 South Gaffey Street. Donations appreciated. Korean Friendship Bell
See the massive and intricately decorated brass bell given to the people of Los Angeles by the people of South Korea. Situated on a hill overlooking the sea gate from which U.S. troops sailed into the Pacific, the bell site affords a magnificent view of Catalina Island and the Palos Verdes Peninsula. 3601 South Gaffey Street. Admission is free.

Ft. MacArthur Military Museum
Featuring photos, drawings, exhibits and memorabilia of Ft. MacArthur and Los Angeles Harbor defenses from 1920 through World War II, the museum is located at 3601 S. Gaffey Street. Open noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Donation. 310-548-7705.
Catalina Island
Located just "26 miles across the sea" is the idyllic island paradise that is Catalina. As the closest point to Catalina, San Pedro is the perfect jumping off point for a Catalina adventure. Sportsfishing and Whale Watching
Located at 141 W. 22nd Street, the Landing is home to the largest privately owned diving and fishing fleet on the West Coast. More than 20 boats offer sportfishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, whale watching (in season) and charters. 5 am to 10 pm daily. For more information call 310-832-8304.
